Summary
“Reckless” by Lesley Choyce is an adventure story about a young man who hates school and lives to ride his dirt bike. One day he was riding his bike through the woods and he was going so fast everything was a blur. He takes a corner and kicks it into third gear and is flying. Suddenly he sees a human shape standing in his path. He slams on the brakes and ditches the bike and hits the man. He rips off his helmet to see if the guy is ok. The man is ok but he picks up the bike and walks it into the woods because it is loud and disturbing. This man is the hermit of loggerman creek who has lived in the woods for several years. Josh is so mad he doesn’t have his bike anymore so he decides to take a long hike to get his bike back. He gets to the hermits house and knocks on his door. The man swings the door open yelling why are you here? He explains he will call the cops if he doesn’t get his bike back. The old man is a war veteran and is afraid of authorities. He opens a big shed and there is the bike, and the bike looks different from when he crashed it.
